Balfour Collegiate High School Underpinning

In 2021 the north façade of Balfour Collegiate was underpinned in response to settlement and lateral movement of the three-story brick masonry load bearing wall. Trees growing adjacent to the west wall combined with drying soil conditions had caused the wall to settle rapidly. JCK provided full structural engineering consulting services throughout the investigation, design, and construction phases and operated as the Prime Consultant. We were responsible for conducting the visual condition assessments of the building, preparing recommendations for monitoring and the scope of the repair work, and preparation of the project budgets.
